Roulette Systems, Explained! - part 1

Probably you’ve heard about systems and strategies for beating roulette. Well, several systems and strategies are being promoted by the loud-mouth players of roulette at the table since the early days of roulette. These systems were thought to help minimize losses and give the player a better chance of winning for LONG term.

I have stressed the word “long” here for the reason that that’s what most casino patrons have claimed. In fact, millions of them have attempted to find a method of beating any negative expectation game in an attempt to gain the elusive upper hand. Unfortunately, the notion of roulette systems remains a myth as apart from cheating, there is no proven system or strategy that will give the player an edge over the casino. There are perhaps some strategies that will minimize losses and give the player the best chance of winning, but over the short term, not long term.

Let’s take a look at the three broad types of roulette systems:

    Outcome Prediction Systems

The outcome prediction systems have long been considered by many players of roulette. According to experts, these types of roulette systems attempt to predict the outcome of the nest spin based on the result of the previous spins. Well, let me make it clear from the beginning that any of these mentioned claims are fatally flawed. The main reason is the fact that the roulette wheel has no memory, thus the outcome of one spin does not in any way affect the outcomes of the next.

For example, if you’d like to believe that if the ball falls on red 10 times in a row, the black has a higher chance of coming up next, then you are wrong. This is not true! Note that the odds for that remain 50% - 50% and this would be the same if the ball had fallen on red 20, or even 30 times. In the game of roulette, each and every spin is an independent event and previous history is highly irrelevant to predicting the future spins.

There are also a number of roulette players who like to look for and bet on “sleeping numbers”, those numbers that have not been hit for a long time. According to some experts, there is no logic behind that bet. The chances of that sleeping number coming up are 1 out of 36 numbers on every spin. And, just because a particular number has been sleeping does not mean that the number picked will come up on the following spin.

    Bet Variation Systems

The bet variation systems are based on the notion that the players of roulette can alter their bets or set of number played, and stop betting at a particular win or loss point. Well, as far as I understand it, these systems have more merit than the pure playing strategies, although most of the outcomes for playing with these strategies result in a loss minimization more than anything.
